DORSET trio Harry Jones, Will van Wingerden and Jack Williams have been selected to represent England at a major international volleyball event.

Corfe Mullen's Jones and Christchurch's van Wingerden play for Wessex while Cranborne's Williams turns out for New Forest & Lymington.

The three players are part of a 24-strong squad set to don national colours in the first round of the European Under-20 and Under-19

Championships, due to be held from January 7-10.

England will travel to Poland to take on Kosovo and Belarus with the group winners qualifying for the next round, scheduled to take place in March.

Technical and talent director for Volleyball England, Audrey Cooper, said: “This is a great opportunity to benchmark ourselves against the best in Europe.

“The players and staff are really up for this challenge and will be looking to put in their best performances in this first group stage.

“Two years ago, the men’s team made it through to the second round so we would be delighted if they were able to match that achievement again."
