LIAM Openshaw and Sheila Monera each achieved a golden hat-trick to lead Poole to the top novice club trophy at the new-look Dorset Graded Meet.

Monera was also named top nine-year-old girl after winning the 9yrs 50m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 100m individual medley.

Openshaw’s wins came in the 12yrs 50m and 100m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

Their medals were among 57 won by Poole at Dorchester – 15 gold, 25 silver and 17 bronze.

Amelia Wingrove was a double winner, taking the 10yrs 100m freestyle and 100m medley.

Other gold medallists for Poole were Emily Jeffries (12yrs 200m freestyle), Xavier West (9yrs 100m freestyle), Tom Cutbush (10yrs 100m freestyle), Liam Duffy (9yrs 200m freestyle), Alastair Ferguson (12yrs 200m freestyle), James Ashton (12yrs 100m breaststroke) and Lorna Webb (10yrs 100m backstroke).

Top girl awards also went to West Dorset’s Erin Horn (10yrs), Clayesmore’s Eve Masters (11yrs) and Chloe Bright of North Dorset Turbos (12yrs).

Top boys were Robert Chitty of Tornadoes of South Dorset (9yrs), Seagulls’ Edward Jaszek (10yrs), West Dorset’s Damian Barnard (11yrs) and Tornadoes’ Lee Penny (12yrs).

Seagulls’ Alice Webb was named fastest girl of the meet following her 100m freestyle time of 1:12.40.

Weymouth’s Aiden Watson’s 100m freestyle time of 1:09.49 won him the prize for the fastest boy.

The meet’s new format bears little resemblance to the old Dorset Graded Meet, which was abandoned in 2006.

Although run as a level four meet, it also allows higher standard category 1 and 2 swimmers to take part.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth Collegiate School’s Lottie James broke three Isle of Wight records during the first weekend of the Isle of Wight Championships.

James, a member of the Isle of Wight squad for the 2015 Island Games in Jersey this summer, recorded times of 1:06.66, 1:15.84 and 2:27.76 in the 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 200m individual medley respectively.

All three records had stood since 2000.
