BUDDING Lewis Hamiltons have the chance to pit their racing skills against other drivers at the recently-formed Little Hornets Racing Academy.

Youngsters from the age of six-years-old can follow in the footsteps of Formula One world champion Hamilton who began his racing career on the karting circuit.

Little Hornets Racing Academy, who race at Matchams, was set up in 2014 with the aim to get young racing drivers into affordable and structured karting.

More than 20 children have benefitted from the academy which offers taster sessions before any investment in equipment is made.

“Little Hornets try and help the kids and parents from the very start,” explains chairman Richard Senner. “The club offers a friendly and approachable atmosphere for the whole family to come along and enjoy.”

The academy launched their new Bambino and Cadet Championship earlier this month with 12 children competing in the first event across two classes.

“The racing was very close and all the children raced hard but fair with some great overtaking,” added Senner.

“At the end of the day all the kids were still friends and shared the experience they had on track with fun and laughter.”

Alfie Briggs won the bambino battle ahead of runner-up Oscar Blanchard and third-placed Alexander Senner.

In the cadets competition, Sonny Smith took the chequered flag in first place with Bradley Scott finishing second and Max Kennedy making up the top three.

Anyone wishing to get involved in karting for the first time, or to join the championship, should contact Senner on 07804224616 or email enquiries@littlehornetsracing.com or visit web page www.littlehornetsracing.com and Facebook page Little Hornets Racing Academy for Bambino and Cadet Karting.

Little Hornets Racing Academy is supported by Bontoft Kart Engines, Synergy Housing (part of the Aster Group) Matchams Karting and Meridian Cooling.
