VERWOOD racer Jordan Boyle rubbed shoulders with the world’s top superbike prospects at the Red Bull Rookies GP selection event in Guadix, Spain.

The 16-year-old rider was one of just nine hopefuls picked from the United Kingdom.

In total, more than 120 riders from around the world were mentored by some of the top personnel in MotoGP before two timed sessions on the track.

At the end of day two, a panel of judges selected a number of racers to progress through to the final day.

Despite not making the third day, Boyle was thrilled to have taken part in such a prestigious competition.

“The whole experience has been fantastic,” said Boyle, who had posted the third fastest lap time of the UK riders.

“I have competed against some of the best young riders in the world and possibly one of the next world champions.”

Boyle was the 2013 runner-up in the Nitro Newcomer class, before claiming a top-12 place in the Aprilia Superteen Championship despite competing in only 20 of the 36-race series.

The only British rider to make the 12-rider shortlist in Spain was Aprilia Superteen champion Rory Skinner from Scotland.

The international line-up included three Spaniards, two Italians and one rider each from Argentina, Croatia, Finland, Netherlands, Ukraine and the United States.

They will compete for the 2015 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup against a selection of youngsters who will be invited back from this season’s event.

Boyle, meanwhile, is hoping to raise enough money to race in the KTM RC390 Cup next season.

The new support series is to be run alongside the top British superbike events in 2015.

Since returning to the UK, Powersport & Classic Motorcycles have helped Boyle to gain equipment sponsorship for next season through their Viper Helmets dealership.
