BUDDING motorcycling star Jordan Boyle has set his sights on bigger and faster bikes next season.

The 16-year-old Verwood racer’s decision followed a series of mechanical failures which have led to several spills in the Dunlop Aprilia Superteen Championship.

Despite a flying start to the year, the 2013 Nitro Newcomer runner-up, slipped behind his rivals after missing two meetings in order to take his GCSE exams at Queen Elizabeth School in Wimborne.

“Jordan returned to the paddock only to find that he had grown several inches in height and increased several pounds in muscle over his fellow competitors,” explained his father Andrew Boyle.

“This distinct disadvantage proved to be a telling factor in the races. Although Jordan qualified on the front row he suffered a series of mechanical failures brought on by overriding the bike.”

The Superteen Challenge is for youngsters up to 18-years-old on 125cc Aprilia bikes with the lighter riders able to set the fastest times.

“Jordan has had to use more and more corner speed and later braking to make up for the power to weight deficit,” added Andrew Boyle. “Eventually the bike’s setup could no longer cope and he started to crash more often.”

In his last meeting at Rocking-ham, Jordan was lucky to walk away unscathed from a 105mph crash due to an engine seizure.

As a result, Jordan has slipped to eighth in the standings going into the season’s finale at Mallory Park next month.

Jordan had started the season in the top three, following podium finishes at Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Snetterton and Cadwell Park.

“I think it’s time to look at bigger and faster bikes that will offer a more even playing field for me,” said Jordan.

“I am planning on staying in the national championships and hope to gain a few more sponsors to help us develop as a team.”
