BOURNEMOUTH disability swimmer Alice Tai warmed up for her European Championships debut next month with a silver medal at the British Gas International Meet in Manchester.

Bournemouth Collegiate School’s 15-year-old Paralympic hopeful slashed four seconds off her personal best time to come second in the multi-disability 100m butterfly in 1:10.34.

She was also fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively in the 400m freestyle (4:56.05), 100m backstroke (1:10.58), 100m freestyle (1:05.59) and 50m freestyle (30.57).

BCS coach Adam Parfitt said: “These are good results from Alice, who is still in a block of hard training in preparation for her first major international meet this summer at the IPC European Championships in Eindhoven.

“She has been working more on her butterfly in training and was rewarded for her efforts.”

Swim Bournemouth’s Jay Lelliott, swimming for Bath University, warmed up for his England debut at the Commonwealth Games by winning a silver medal in the 1500m freestyle in 15:23.33.

Bournemouth-Poole ex-pats Dan Speers and Jack Burton also made the medals.

Former Poole swimmer Speers, 17, now with Millfield, won gold in the 18/u 50m freestyle in 24.04 and was fifth in the junior 100m freestyle in 53.68.

Swim Bournemouth’s Jack Burton, 18, prepared for his first European Junior Championships this month with second, third and fourth places respectively in the 18/u 50, 200 and 100m breaststroke in 29.55, 2:24.82 and 1:06.24.

Poole’s Madison Kemp made the girls’ 16/u 50m breast-stroke final, where she im-proved to sixth place in 35.28.

She had the quickest reaction time in the senior and junior finals and was leading by half-a-bodylength after 25m.

She also came 11th in the 50m butterfly in 29.43.

Team-mate Noah Vides missed the 18/u 50m breaststroke final by 0.08sec as he came ninth in 31.14.
