DORSET-based Nicholas Hunt scored a personal best 7,128 points as he dominated the South West Schools’ decathlon championships at Yeovil.

Hunt sprinted into the lead with 100m in 11.23s and stayed there throughout the two days.

After a 6.92m long jump, a 14.92m shot putt, 2.04 high jump and 400m in 51.90s, the English Schools’ champion led by 900 points overnight.

On day two, Hunt posted 14.61s for 110m hurdles, 40.24m discus, 3.80m pole vault, 46.84m javelin and 5:10.77 for 1500m to secure the gold medal.

Wimborne AC’s Matthew Curtis was second with 5,712 points.

Ryan Long of Poole AC accumulated 4,395 points for intermediate boys’ octathlon silver.

Local athletes achieved two junior girls’ pentathlon silver medals. Wimborne AC’s Bethan Burley racked up 2,950 points for Dorset at Yeovil, while Bournemouth AC’s Iona Sheerin claimed 2,851 points for Hampshire in the equivalent South East Schools’ event at Lee Valley.
