TALENTED nine-year-old Amy Campbell-Wynter upstaged her elder opponents to win the Bournemouth Junior Open under-13 girls title at the West Hants Club.

The Christchurch Junior School star won all four of her round-robin games before toppling Amelie Howorth, from Hampshire, in the final.

Amy, who just turned nine in May, is ranked in the top 10 for her age group after finishing ninth in the nationals at Nottingham last month. She is the youngest player in the under-11 rankings.

Her brother, 10-year-old Luca, was also the youngest competitor in his Bournemouth Open category, finishing runner-up.

Both Amy and Luca are coached by their father Charlie at Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre.

Luca was one of six Dorset players to finish second in their competitions at West Hants.

In the under-17 finals, Phil Sargeant lost a close match with Hampshire’s Cameron Ward, while Abbi Hurd bowed out to Oxfordshire’s Eve Coxen in an evenly-contested girls’ event.

Other Dorset runners-up were Joe Pannell, Ellie Corben and Lucy Hill.

Charlie Campbell-Wynter, meanwhile, is running a summer squash camp at Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre on 24-26 July.
