POOLE’S Jacob Peters inched closer to achieving his goal of qualifying for nine events at the National Age Group Championships this summer.

During a personal seven-medal spree at the Portsmouth Easter Open Meet, the 13-year-old came within 0.18sec of his ninth national qualifying time (NQT) as he came second in the 200m freestyle in 2:10.18.

He also earned long-course NQTs for four events in which he had already achieved short-course times.

His three wins came in the 100 freestyle in 58.63, the 200m butterfly in 2:23.64 and the 400m individual medley (IM) in 5:11.32.

His other second places were in the 100m fly (1:03.97) and 200m backstroke (2:22.59) and his bronze in the 200m IM in 2:27.19.

The 100m fly time was the first of six club records to fall.

Team-mate Emily Clarke, recovering from illness, swam impressively to win four gold medals, including a clean sweep of the backstroke events.

She set an NQT and a club record of 31.35 in the 50m back, a PB 1:06.97 in the 100m and 2:22.50 in the 200. Clarke also won the 800m freestyle in another long course PB of 9:26.52.

Fifteen-year-olds Madison Kemp and Jasmine Holmes each won two gold medals. Kemp won the 100m freestyle in 1:00.65 and the 50m breaststroke in 35.15. She also added a bronze in the 50m butterfly (30.00).

Holmes’s winning 200m freestyle time of 2:09.75 was a club record and she also won gold in the 50m free in 28.92 and bronze in the 400m.

Inez Griffin, 16, won gold in the 200m breaststroke in 2:45.11 and bronze in the 100m in 1:17.71.

Robbie Hemmings won four medals – gold in the 9yrs 50 and 200m backstroke (40.58 and 3:01.22), silver in the 50m free (35.36) and bronze in the 200m IM (3:16.19).

Eleven-year-olds Guy Selwood and Morgan Hiles both made the podium. Selwood won gold in the 50m breast-stroke in 43.52 and qualified for his first regional championships in the 200m IM in 3:01.65. Hiles took bronze in the 200m freestyle (2:34.57).

Noah Vides and Todd Price, both 17, broke club records. Vides with a silver-winning 30.45 in the 50m breaststroke and Price with 2:12.77 for bronze in the 200m butterfly.

Summer Torkington, 12, earned long course PBs in all her races as she won silver in the 200m breast-stroke (3:05.14) and bronze in the 100m breast (1:28.72) and 200 and 400m IM (2:43.31 and 5:44.67).

Bronze also went to club captain Katie Mills, 18, in the 200 and 400m IM in 2:39.44 and 5:26.63, Dan Monk in the 50m back (30.47) and Allanah Smithson in the 50m breast (38.19). Matthew Coch-rane booked his place at the regional champion-ships in the 200m backstroke (2:37.75).

  •  Amy Brown struck gold four times to head Swim Bournemouth’s medal tally at Portsmouth. The nine-year-old won the 50 and 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 200m breaststroke.

Harriet Perfect improved her NQTs as she won all the 13yrs backstroke events.

Jemma Green and Kelvin Wong each achieved two NQTs, silver medallist Green in the 200 and 400m freestyle, Wong in the 100 and 200m backstroke.

Gold also went to Morgan Long in the 100m freestyle, Ryan Symington in the 200m free and Oliver Fairman in the 200m breaststroke.

El Devine took silver in the 50m freestyle, while bronze went to Matt Collins in the 50m freestyle and Jess Richens in the 200m butterfly.

  •  Max Weeks topped Seagulls’ tally with five medals from seven races – gold in the 50m freestyle and 200m fly (29.49 and 3:13.01), silver in the 100m free and fly (1:06.55 and 1:23.22) and bronze in the 50m fly (36.87). The 50m freestyle time was his first under 30 seconds in a 50m pool.

Nathan Gerrard took silver in the 50m backstroke (39.59) and bronze in the 400m (6:29.18).

Jacob O’Hara achieved his first South West qualifying time as he won silver in the 200m backstroke in 2:44.17.

Regional times also went to Abbie Peckham in the 200m freestyle and fly and Amy Mills in the 400m IM.
