PARK School have written a new chapter in the county schools table tennis history books by becoming the first Dorset side to win a national title.

The winning quartet of Jessica Holloway, Ron Rubin, Charlotte Feilden and Kayleigh Rees won the under-11s girls trophy at Hinkley in Leicestershire.

The Queens Park-based school earned their place in the final four by winning the southern area qualifier at Harewood Col-lege in February.

Park School’s first match with St Mary’s School, from Merseyside, finished in a remarkable 4-4 draw.

The two teams could not even be separated on countback with 15 sets won each.

Following their opening close encounter, the Dorset quartet went from strength to strength notching up an impressive 6-2 win over London Central representatives Barney Primary School.

Victory set up a winner-takes-all final match against reigning champions Great Wood Primary, from Morecambe in Lancashire.

Trailing 4-3 after the first seven matches, it was down to Ron Rubin to keep Park School’s dream alive.

The Park School youngster duly delivered by winning her match 3-0 and sealing a 16 to 12 set advantage on count-back to snatch the silverware.

Team manager and Park School teacher Matt Spraggs said: “The girls battled continuously, without a break, for more than seven hours, and each one of them secured crucial victories at key times.

“It is a momentous occasion for Park School, but more importantly, a weekend that the girls will never, ever forget.”

Head coach James Lewis added: “I am immensely proud of what these young girls have achieved, it really is phenomenal.”
