PARK School in Queens Park is celebrating its boys and girls table tennis squads qualifying for the regional schools under-11 championships for the second year in a row.
The boys U11s team beat Cranborne Middle School in a tense final. Both teams got to the final with victories and competed in what was to be one of the closest finals seen in Dorset schools table tennis history.
At two matches all, the game went to a sudden-death doubles match. At two sets apiece, a final deciding set was required .
The championship remained in the balance until, at 9-9, Park took the next two points to win a memorable final set 11-9.
The girls will be joining them in Plymouth for the regionals after a very different set of results.
With three of the four girls under 10 years old, it was a remarkable achievement for the quartet to secure the Dorset Schools under-13 championship, winning 15 of their 16 matches against 13-year-old girls from several other schools.
