SAM Allen and Sam Walrond completed their preparation for Brazil in fine style – winning the second Side Out Winter Beach Series event at the LeAF Elite Athlete Academy Indoor Beach Volleyball complex on Sunday.

The Dorset pair moved into the last week, of a six-week training program, in preparation for representing GB Schools Under-17s.

They showed that hard work and dedication is starting to pay off as they improved their performance from fourth place in the first Side Out event last month.

Allen and Walrond eased through the pool stage to set up a quarter-final with training partner Harry Jones, and Bourne-mouth veteran Richard Cannon.

Cannon and Jones took an early 3-0 lead, but the LeAF Elite Academy athletes found their consistency to run out 21-10 winners.

In the last four, the two Sams toppled Polish/German partnership of Tomek Stepien and Michael Klik 21-17 winners to claim a place in final.

The final saw the LeAF pairing pitched against another experienced pairing from Cardiff, Michael Constantinou and Eric Bull, who they beat 21-18 for their first senior title win.

Head LeAF coach Andy Jones said: “The two Sams show a maturity in there beach volleyball well ahead of their time. They overcame some of the more experienced players in the country, and this will hold them in good preparation for the trip to Brazil.”

“It also shows the dedication of the athletes and the staff to the programme at LeAF, that we have started winning senior titles at regional level, in beach and indoor volleyball with team from the academy”.
