LIONS’ young stars produced a hearty roar as they starred in a double success for Bournemouth Rugby Club on Saturday.

The Chapel Gate under-16s were tasked with setting the tone for the club’s senior side when they took to the field in a game which preceded Lions’ National Two South clash with league rivals Taunton.

And the teenagers did not disappoint as they stormed to an 80-3 victory over their Taunton counterparts in front of a bumper crowd.

With the first-team match sponsored by Bournemouth’s youth and mini section, the under-16s were given the opportunity to showcase their skills.

Captain Ollie Alder wasted no time in getting the ball rolling with a try inside the opening three minutes.

With Bournemouth’s forward pack providing a platform for the backs to express themselves, Lions ran riot. Otto Gray led the way with a hat-trick and he was joined on the scoresheet by Scott Dodds, Hamish Renwick, Luis Granell, Jamie O’Leary, Michael Smith, Tyrone Carkeet, Sam Baily and Dan Caws-Williams. Conor Dunne added eight conversions, with Granell booting a further two.

Lions’ senior team completed the double triumph as they registered a nail-biting 30-27 win.
