TOO GOOD TO SAY 'NO'
 |
| DEAN COURT DEAL: Sammy Igoe |
SAMMY Igoe admits the lure of staying in the pro ranks was far too good to turn down after finalising a deal to extend his career with Cherries.
The 32-year-old has penned an initial one-year contract - with an appearance-related 12-month option - and becomes Kevin Bond's third summer signing.
Fareham-based Igoe, who spent the past two years at Bristol Rovers, linked up with Cherries for the start of pre-season and impressed during the warm-up campaign.
But after declining an invitation to join Bond's squad at their training camp at Woodbury Park, he looked set to drop into the non-league ranks with Havant & Waterlooville.
However, despite turning out for the Hawks last week, Igoe was subsequently offered terms by Cherries and jumped at the chance to remain in the Football League.
Igoe told the Daily Echo: "If I'd gone to Woodbury, it would have been another seven days before the manager could give me a decision. But he rang me while they were down there and said he wanted to do something.
"I was delighted. I've said from day one that I've wanted to come here for about five years. Money wasn't a motivating factor and I have always liked the way Bournemouth play football. Spending a month here made me even more determined to sign.
"I know the manager at Havant & Waterlooville and he said they would love to have me. They put a fantastic package together and I was very surprised at the money they could offer. But I just felt it would be way too early for me to leave the pro ranks. I feel I've got at least another four years left in me at this level so that swayed me."
The former Portsmouth, Reading, Millwall, Swindon and Bristol Rovers midfielder says he believes Bond's squad has the potential to bounce back to League One at the first attempt, irrespective of any possible points deduction.
Igoe, promoted with Reading in 2002 and Rovers in 2007, said: "From my experiences in League Two, a lot of teams don't try to play and some do. It's a tough league and it was a shock in my first season with Rovers. Some of the places we went to weren't very nice and neither were some of the teams.
"But the belief was to play football, which we did, and we got promoted in my first season there. There is no reason why we can't do the same. All the players here are footballers and everybody wants to play the game how it should be played."
Igoe added: "It doesn't matter how old you are, if you are a professional footballer, you should want to play in every game.
"I'm at my happiest when I'm playing and horrible when I'm not. I just want to keep playing for as long as I can and as well as I can and that's what I intend to do here."
Cherries boss Bond said: "We are really pleased to have Sammy aboard. He's as fit as they come and has always looked after himself. He's capable of doing a really good job for us."

The team is starting to look half decent for the new season. Not long to go now.

Did anybody hear Kevin Bond on radio 5 last night?
He said he was expecting a 15 point deduction....but...i
t could be MORE it could be LESS.He also said that staying up is their aim this season.
The Rotherham chairman would not be drawn on the question of points deduction and said that the FA have a very difficult job and the club would abide by their decision.
Mick Harford of Luton said that they were putting together a good side and were going out with the aim of winning every game.
Three different people interviewed. Only one person sounded like a wet weekend in Brighton.
I hope he is more positive with the players before the game on saturday.

Havn't seen the Royle family...sorry.Don't watch a lot of telly too busy doing things.
Danny Hollands should certainly get into a
pick of league 2 team if he reproduces the form he showed last year.
Hopefully, some others will come through this year.

My concern is this , when did a collection of testosterone spent older players storm , or even creep to promotion.
I recall John Toshack achieving this with some good ex liverpool players years ago.
Can someone please tell me otherwise.
Also , we should be looking at Lee Bradbury as a striker in this division as they are hard to come by and we have other options for the right back berth.
That would give us three goal scoring forwards.

Meanwhile...
...at the Football League...

AFC Bournemouth[/bold]
The Board also considered an application under the 'exceptional circumstances' provisions of its insolvency policy relating to AFC Bournemouth.
However, the Board is not yet satisfied with the viability of the new company's proposals and consequently it has been asked to reflect further on its position.
The Board will meet tomorrow to consider the matter again.

The FA will possibly ask for a cash bond of 750,000 to secure against the club owners being able to fund the season like has been requested at Rotherham.
