SWIM Bournemouth’s Helen O’Neile, 22, was the only local winner at the Speedo Poole Sea Swim at Sandbanks on Sunday.

The Loughborough University student – one of almost 500 swimmers who converged on Sandbanks from many parts of Britain – was the first woman home in the 1500m race in a time of 22min 27sec.

Former Poole, Ferndown and Bournemouth Dolphins swimmer Greg Shrosbree, 21, was the second man in the same event in 21:11.

The races doubled as the British Police Championships.

1500m: 1 Chris Perham (Tri-UK) 20:22, 2 Greg Shrosbree (Poole) 21:11, 3 Tom Crew (Bath Uni/ Bridport) 21:35.

3000m: 1 Daniel Shorthouse (Swansea Performance) 39:18, 2 Shawn Morgan (GB Police / Woking Masters) 40:06, 3 Ross Jarvis (Newbury) 41:54.

Female - 750m: 1 Hannah Beetham (Abertillery SC) 12:07, 2 Ellie Hine (Bradford-upon-Avon) 12:25, Lauren Harrison (Chard) 13:03.

1500m: 1 Helen O’Neile (Swim Bournemouth) 22:27, Dorr McCall 22:35, 3 Molly Beetham (Abertillery SC) 23:16.

3000m: 1 Jessica Wooddisse (GB Police/Gloucester) 43:06, 2 Gill Gregory 44:07, 3 Laure Bacher (Otter SC) 44:20.
