Dolphins duo among the Fareham medals

DANIELLE Thwaites and Rachel Hawkins hit the form of their lives to lead Bournemouth Dolphins’ four-medal tally at the Fareham Nomads Summer Open Meet.

Gold proved elusive for the nine Dolphins in action at Fareham but Thwaites had a near-miss as she seized silver in the 14yrs 100m butterfly.

Her time of 1:11.45 was three seconds clear of the bronze medallist but only 0.3sec adrift of winner Megan Brett from Watford.

The 14-year-old also achieved three other top six finishes as she recorded personal best times in all five of her events.

Her other placings were fourth in the 50m butterfly (32.74), fifth and sixth in the 100 and 200m freestyle (1:05.75 and 2:18.22) and 12th in the 50m freestyle (30.64).

Rachel Hawkins, 13, won two bronze medals as she completed a hectic programme of nine events and 800 competitive metres in two days.

Like Thwaites, she too recorded a succession of personal best times. Her bronze medals came in the 13yrs 50 and 100m backstroke (34.38 and 1:12.80).

Bronze also went to Stephen Littlefair for his third place in the 15yrs 100m breaststroke (1:17.42).

He also achieved five other top 10 finishes – fifth in the 50 and 200m freestyle (27.34 and 2:09.21), sixth in the 100m butterfly (1:06.96), seventh in the 200m individual medley (2:31.07) and 10th in the 100m freestyle (1:00.27).
