BOURNEMOUTH Dolphins’ Martin Littlefair is set to make his international debut after being added to the England team for the schools international against Scotland, Wales and Ireland later this month.
The 17-year-old, who last week became the first Dorset man to break the four-minute barrier for the 400m freestyle, joins fellow Dolphins Courtney Rowan and Amelia Maughan and Ferndown’s Naomi Vides and Fran Hughes in Glasgow on March 20.
It is the first time Dorset has had as many as five swimmers in a national team.
• They may not be the fastest team in Dorset but some feel Poole SC are now the smartest following the unveiling of their striking new kit at the recent county championships.
Gone are the drab black tee shirts, replaced by bright yellow and black tee shirts and matching tracksuits – still in keeping with club’s colours but vastly more vibrant.
They were bought from a local sports shop after swimmers raised over £2,000 by bag-packing at Sainsbury’s.
“The kit caused quite a stir at the county championships,” said mum Kerry Kemp.
“The effect on poolside was stunning. We had lots of very positive comments from parents, coaches and swimmers from other clubs.”
Poole did well in the pool, too, especially in the younger age groups.
In the Bagcats results, which use a points formula based on a range of events for boys aged nine to 14 and girls aged nine to 13, Poole collected three wins and two second places – a record only bettered by Bournemouth Dolphins.
