SEAGULLS’ Sam Webber is through to the last 35 in the ruthless selection process for Great Britain’s water polo talent squad – and glimpsing a trip to the European Junior Championships on the horizon.
Webber, 15, survived the latest cull of 18 players following another gruelling weekend of tests and training at Cardiff.
He will now attend the remaining training camps through to the autumn and the national academy at Millfield in July.
Britain’s under-18s head for Poland next month for a European junior qualifying tournament.
But if they qualify for the main championships, some current team members will then be too old to compete, opening the door to younger players, such as Webber.
“The prize of an early trip to the European Junior Championships is a massive incentive to progress,” said Seagulls’ water polo coach Rob Webber, who is also Sam’s father.
