HISTORY repeated itself for Ferndown Otters’ Tom Tiller as he hit the medal trail at the Dorset Development Meet.
After grabbing the headlines with seven gold and two silver medals at the same meet in 2008, the 16-year-old produced a similar performance at Littledown 12 months later.
His achievements this time included:
The events which won him the ‘swim of the day’ awards were the 100m and 400m freestyle in which he recorded times of 57.02 and 4:23.44.
The 100m freestyle also provided one of his four CBTs. The others came in the 200m freestyle (2:06.02) and the 100m and 200m individual medley (1:08.68 and 2:27.57).
His silver medals came in the 50m freestyle and backstroke and the “skins”.
The female “best swim” awards went to 14-year-olds Rebecca Fish of Bournemouth Dolphins for her 50m freestyle time of 29.15 on day one and Phoebe-May Notley of Poole, who swam the 400m freestyle in 4:50.51 on day two.
Both times were also CBTs. Notley also improved the meet records in the 14yrs 100m freestyle (1:04.88) and 200m backstroke (2:38.62) while Fish did so in the 100m backstroke (1:13.81).
Poole team-mates Harrison Kemp and Jessica Richens set seven CBTs between them in the 9yrs age group.
Kemp’s came in the 50m and 200m freestyle (34.47 and 2:53.90), 50m butterfly (42.41) and 100m medley (1:31.35), Richens’s in the 100m medley (1:40.24), 200m freestyle (3:00.81) and 200m backstroke (3:16.03).
Other multiple record-breakers included Dolphins’ Olivia Esposti with CBTs in the 13yrs 100m and 200m freestyle (1:04.86 and 2:21.25) and 50m and 100m butterfly (33.59 and 1:15.12) and Kiana Hooshmand, who broke all three 11yrs breaststroke CBTs (50m 43.09, 100m 1:30.90, 200m 3:16.95).
For Seagulls, Eleanor Kerslake set CBTs in all three 13yrs backstroke events (33.82, 1:15.18, 2:39.68) while Ferndown’s Hannah Dicker matched that number in the 15yrs age group (50m back 34.44, 100m back 1:13.54, 100m medley 1:16.24).
Ferndown’s Abbie Lynch and Bournemouth Dolphins’ Matthew Folland each won two titles in the awards for the “most improved” swimmers.
Ten-year-old Lynch knocked 39 and 40 seconds off her previous best times to win the awards for the most improved 200m freestyle (3:04.57) and 200m medley (3:27.19).
Nine-year-old Folland won the equivalent boys’ awards for his 45-second and 20-second improvements in the 200m freestyle (3:13.09) and 100m medley (1:37.97).
Seagulls’ Shania Todd was named the most improved girl in the 200m “form” strokes (non-freestyle) following her 39-second drop in the 9yrs 200m breaststroke (3:56.20).
Matthew Lumley won the equivalent boys’ event for his time of 3:01.47 in the 10yrs 200m backstroke, a 24-second improvement which also broke the competition record.
Poole’s Alex Bourne, 10, and nine-year-old Daniel Hill of North Dorset Turboes shared the award for the most improved male 400m freestylers, while Seagulls’ Alice Tai, 10, won the equivalent girls’ award.
In the sudden death 50m “skins” events, Ferndown’s Hannah Dicker won the freestyle and was second to Dolphins’ Olivia Esposti in the backstroke.
Poole’s Declan Callahan was a clear winner in the male backstroke, while James Dawson of West Dorset Warriors took the freestyle.
