SWIM Bournemouth and Christchurch-based Seagulls led the honours at the Dorset Graded Meet in Dorchester.

Swim Bournemouth were named Top Novice Club as their swimmers picked up four of the eight individual age group awards and won 40 medals – 18 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze.

Seagulls had three individual award-winners, including Thomas Massie, whose 12yrs 100m freestyle time of 1:14.13 was the fastest male swim of the day based on FINA points.

Nine-year-old team-mate Harry Pollard’s time of 1:38.57 made him the most improved 100m individual medley (IM) swimmer with a 12.22 per cent drop from his entry time.

The girls’ IM award went to Holly Kearns from Tornadoes of South Dorset with a 12.17 per cent improvement.

Seagull Daniel Vaughan’s wins in the 100m freestyle and 100m IM helped to make him the top 11-year-old boy.

But each of the four boys’ age group awards went to a different club.

Swim Bournemouth’s Lucas Garel-Jones dominated the 9yrs age group with wins in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 50m and 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke and bronze in the 50m backstroke.

Francis Yates of West Dorset was the top 12-year-old.

Three of the four girls’ age group awards went to Swim Bournemouth.

Aimee Kelly was the top nine-year-old after winning all four of her events – the 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m and 100m backstroke.

Wins in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke plus third places in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle and 100m IM helped to earn Alice Cunningham-Smith the 10yrs award.

She also broke the meet record with 51.13 in the 50m breaststroke.

Team-mate Arohi Singh was the top 12-year-old after first place in the 200m freestyle and third in the 100m freestyle and 100m IM.

Blandford’s Natalie Brushett ensured there was no Swim Bournemouth monopoly of the girls’ awards by winning the 11yrs title.

She also won medals of each colour – gold in the 50m and 100m freestyle, silver in the 50m backstroke and 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m IM.

Blandford 11-year-old Avantika Gurung’s golden hat-trick in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke included a meet record of 1:32.14 in the backstroke.
