SEAGULLS sprint ace Max Weeks achieved a golden hat-trick as the Christchurch club headed both west and east in their spring medal quest.

On the western front, 14-year-old Weeks set a club record time of 27.44 to win the 15yrs 50m butterfly at the Aquae Sulis Grand Prix in Bristol.

He also won the 100m butterfly in 1:05.32 and the 50m freestyle 26.73 before adding silver in the 100m freestyle (58.11).

Weeks’s brother Kai, 13, won two freestyle medals in Bristol – gold in the 14yrs 1500m in 19:12.68 and silver in the 100m (1:01.22).

He also recorded four long-course personal best times.

Seagulls were also in the medals at the Guildford City Level 1 Springboard Meet in Surrey.

Thirteen-year-old Miles Ward carved 24 seconds off his long-course PB to win gold in the 14yrs freestyle in 17:47.02.

He also claimed silver in the 400m freestyle in 4:33.43, a club record as well as a four-second PB.

Team-mate Isaac Ellis lowered his 50m backstroke PB by two seconds to win a bronze medal in 34.90.

He also set a club record in the 200m individual medley.

Coach Glenn Bailey said: “We had lots of solid swims over the weekend with five swimmers recording 26 long-course PBs between them.”

• Xavier West, Grace Crowe and Jacob Lane were all double winners at the Poole Primary Schools gala at Rossmore.

West won the year 6 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle for Bishop Aldhelm’s School while Crowe took the year 5 girls’ 25m butterfly and 50m breaststroke for The Yarrells.

Lane provided two of Oakdale Junior’s four wins in the year 5 50m breaststroke and freestyle.

Team-mate Sam Tallant won the year 5 backstroke and Oakdale also won the year 5 mixed stroke relay.

Hamworthy Junior dominated the year 6 girls’ events with wins from Zoe Steele in the 50m freestyle, Lara Johnston-Trow in the 25m butterfly and Jessica Playford in the 50m backstroke.

Broadstone Middle School’s four wins included individual victories for year 5 swimmers Daniel Axford-Smith in the 25m butterfly and Mae Phillips in the 50m freestyle and in year 6 for Liam Duffy in the 50m breaststroke.

Bournemouth Collegiate School’s Claire Stuhlmacher won the year 6 100m freestyle with team-mate Peter Robertshaw taking the boys’ 50m freestyle.

Other individual winners were Charlie Meek of Baden-Powell Junior in the year 6 25m butterfly, Canford Heath’s Lucy Gibbs in the year 5 50m backstroke and Holly Chandler in the year 6 50m breaststroke.
