Swim Bournemouth’s top squad found themselves training with an Olympic swimmer at Canford School on Friday.

England’s number one 800m freestyler Ellie Faulkner, who swam at London 2012 before making her world championship debut in Barcelona last year, was in Dorset to attend her cousin Bryony Fearnehough’s wedding at Branksome.

She approached Swim Bournemouth head coach Emma Richards so she could maintain her training schedule ahead of next month’s British Championships and Commonwealth Games trials in Glasgow.

Faulkner, 21, from Sheffield, led the top lane at Canford on Friday evening before being given a lane of her own for two hours at Littledown next morning.

“With three weeks to go before the trials, it’s important that I keep up my training,” said Faulkner, who was Britain’s number two 800m freestyler at the London Olympics, where the number one was defending champion Rebecca Adlington.

“Swim Bournemouth made me very welcome.”
