POOLE’S Jacob Peters qualified for his third event at the summer nationals as he won a medal of each colour at Portsmouth.

The 13-year-old powered to victory in the 100m butterfly in a national qualifying and club record time of 1:06.36, just 0.05sec ahead of Swim Bournemouth’s silver-winning Matt Collins.

Peters (pictured), who already has national times for the 100 and 200m backstroke, also won silver in the 200m back in 2:25.84 and bronze in the 400m freestyle in 4:40.37.

He missed out on a fourth medal in the 100m backstroke as Collins edged ahead by the slimmest margin, 0.01sec.

Inez Griffin twice made the podium, winning gold in the 15-16yrs 200m breaststroke in 2:45.17 and bronze in the 100m in 1:21.14.

Amid an avalanche of personal best times by Poole swimmers, Oliver Weston and club captain Katie Mills recorded regional qualifying times in the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke respectively.

Poole head coach Robin Armayan said: “This was a chance to see how rested our swimmers were after our first training cycle and the Christmas break.

“I was pleased with their performance. The times have improved and so have the skills. I was particularly happy with our turns.”
