LUCY Brain added a second event to her programme for the summer nationals as she struck gold three times at the Portsmouth New Year Open Meet.

The 14-year-old from Swim Bournemouth powered to victory in the 14yrs 200 and 400m freestyle and 200m backstroke.

Her winning 400m time of 4:32.18 added this event to the 800m freestyle that she is already booked to swim in Sheffield after breaking the Dorset junior record a few weeks ago.

Matt Collins topped Swim Bournemouth’s medal tally with six – gold in the 13yrs 50, 200 and 400m freestyle, silver in the 100m butterfly and bronze in the 100m freestyle and backstroke.

Ben Samuel won four medals – gold in the 12yrs 100 and 200m freestyle, silver in the 100m backstroke and 400m freestyle.

Harriet Perfect and Luke Roxburgh were also double winners.

Perfect won gold in the 13yrs 100 and 200m backstroke and bronze in the 200m medley.

Roxburgh struck gold in the 14yrs 100 and 200m breaststroke.

Jemma Green and Izzy Pryce also dipped into Portsmouth’s previous metal reserves, Green coming first in the 13yrs 100m butterfly and second in the 200 and 400m freestyle, Pryce taking first and third respectively in the 12yrs 100 and 200m breaststroke.

Senior swimmers Ellie Kerslake and Alan Wong each won a silver and a bronze.

Club captain Kerslake came second in the 17/o 100 and 200m backstroke with 16-year-old Wong winning his medals in the 15-16yrs 200 and 100m backstroke.

Eve Goldsack started the new year in record-breaking form for Christchurch Seagulls, winning silver medals in the 14yrs 200m freestyle (2:13.22) and butterfly (2:33.35) and bronze in the 100m and 400m freestyle in 1:01.42 and 4.38.47. The last two times were both club records.

Ten-year-old team-mate Nathan Gerrard’s six medals included gold in the 100m breaststroke (1:33.75) and backstroke (1:23.72).

His others were silver in the 200m breaststroke (3:20.99), 200m individual medley (3:01.26) and 100m freestyle (1:13.97) and bronze in the 200m backstroke (2.58.75).

He also earned his fifth regional qualifying time in the medley.

Anashe Chisadza, 11, won gold and silver in the 100 and 200m butterfly (1.24.67 and 3.06.96).

Amy Mills, 12, won silver in 100m breaststroke (1:26.31), while Zoe Gannaway, 13, took bronze in 400m freestyle (4:44.27).

In her first long-course open meet since rejoining Seagulls from Swim Bournemouth in September, 17-year-old Isabelle Frampton set a club record and a one-second personal best to claim bronze in the 17/o 100m butterfly (1:07.12) – an event in which she still holds the 11yrs and 13yrs records.

Bethan O’Hara broke the 16yrs club record for the 100m fly with 1:08.96 as well as winning bronze in the 200m medley.
