BETH Aitchison made history for Dorset’s newest club by setting three county records in their first outing as an independent outfit.

The 15-year-old toppled three Dorset junior marks as the newly-formed Bournemouth Collegiate School SC racked up a 33-medal haul in the Taunton Dean open meet at Millfield.

It was BCS’s first club competition since they split from Christchurch Seagulls earlier this year.

Two of the old records belonged to former European junior swimmer Charlotte Evans and had survived since 2000, just 12 months before the Bournemouth Dolphin became ASA senior national champion in the 100 and 200m breaststroke.

One of these was in the 100m breaststroke in which Aitchison slashed 0.66sec off Evans’s Dorset junior long-course record with a time of 1:11.98.

The time was inside the qualifying standard for this year’s European Junior Championships but came a month too late for Aitchison to make the trip to Poland.

It does, though, rank her first in the country among 15-year-olds.

The other Evans record to fall was in the 200m individual medley as the BCS swimmer clocked 2:22.44, an improvement of 0.83sec on the previous standard from 13 years ago.

Record number three came in the 50m breaststroke as Aitchison recorded 33.77, a drop of 0.65sec on the record set in 2008 by former national age group champion Naomi Vides, then with Ferndown Otters.

The record times contributed to a personal haul of six gold medals for Aitchison, who also won the 200m breaststroke in 2:38.02, the 50m freestyle in 28.01 and the 400m medley in a national qualifying time of 5:09.77.

Younger brother Zak Aitchison made it a family affair at Millfield as he won five gold and three silver medals for BCS.

His wins came in the 14yrs 50, 100 and 200m breaststroke (33.18, 1:11.32 and 2:39.42), 100m freestyle (57.60) and 200m medley (2:23.34).

Twelve-year-old Christian Tai qualified for the 100m butterfly and the 400m medley at this summer’s age group nationals as he added five gold medals and one silver to the BCS tally. His wins came in the 200 and 400m medley (2:35.80 and 5:26.06), 100 butterfly and breaststroke (1:09.98 and 1:26.76) and 400 freestyle (4:53.24), his silver in the 200m breaststroke (3:11.87).

Jack Arnell, 13 this month, contributed four to BCS’s tally of 20 gold medals, a total which took them to third in the club medals table despite having only a handful of swimmers at the meet.

Arnell won the 12yrs 50, 100 and 200m backstroke in 35.02, 1:14.12 and 2:36.34 and the 100m freestyle in 1:08.40.

He was second in the 200m freestyle in 2:29.21 and third in the 200m breaststroke (3:21.18).

Jamie Holmes, 15, made three visits to the podium, taking silver in the 50m breaststroke (32.58) and bronze in the 100 and 200m breast (1:11.50 and 2:41.80).

Double bronze went to both Stella Cookson, 12, in the 100m breaststroke (1:25.52) and 200m medley (2:40.82) and Daniel Trickett, 14, in the 50m freestyle (29.12) and butterfly (31.83).
