Pirates turn to Harris after Iversen flight drama (updated)

PIRATES have booked British ace Chris Harris as a last-gasp guest call-up for tonight’s Elite League grand final second leg.

Matt Ford confirmed the Coventry star had agreed to boost depleted Pirates after the Bees’ meeting at Belle Vue had been postponed.

Pirates chief Ford was forced into a re-think after Niels-Kristian Iversen, Poole’s original guest booking for number one Darcy Ward, was dramatically left stranded in Poland after his flight into Stansted today had been delayed.

That turn of events followed the huge setback Pirates suffered when Ward had been ruled out after sustaining a head injury in a fight outside a Dorset pub in the early hours of Saturday morning.

With Iversen out and a lack of other available riders due to Belle Vue's scheduled clashes with Wolverhampton and Coventry this evening, Swindon had looked like hot favourites to claim the title.

But with the late addition of Harris following the Belle Vue postponement, Pirates now appear to have more of a chance of overturning the seven-point deficit from the first leg.

The action starts at Wimborne Road from 7.30pm.

Speedway is in danger of becoming a farce.....Poole win the league....but may not be champions( again ), they build teams....then have to let their riders depart due to" averages" they play the same team 86 times in one season.....they are now attempting to "share" the top rider`s spot.....another team loses a match on the toss of a coin... sorry I for one have had enough....think I will stick to Tiddly Winks - might be an idea if Darcy did as well.

Not if Sky Sports have anything to do with it. If the covers are still on then the track should be OK to ride. The TV people love a tricky track for thrills and spills and no doubt to talk up Darcy's early morning altercation - "Stupid Boy Pike"!

I know as reported , that darcy does not seem at fault but I think he should consider why these things are happening . When things happy like this , there is inevitably a reason. Darcy needs to find that reason and address the situation.

SWINDON ROBINS ARE THE CHAMPIONS YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS strength in depth told in the end and our boys showed Holder and Kasprzak their back wheels just to turn the screw at the right time in the early heats. Big congratulations to Poole for trying their hearts out with all the injuries you have had to endure and it sure took its toll in the end. Special wishes go to Darcy get well soon lad and hope the idiot that did this gets his come upence.

Well said Mikek - it was so nice to see the smiles on the Robins fans faces especially for heats 13 through 15 cos there was nothing they could do cos we had already won it. Thank you Darcy, Linus, Ricky and Ludvig for helping us out and hope to see you all back in the blue and white next year although I expect to see Fordy wangling the points and signing at least 5 heat leaders. The Pirates have been scuppered up the Robins
