DARCY Ward has fixed up a precious three-bike sponsorship deal with former Eastbourne rider Martin Hagon as he bids to make a big impression in his Elite League debut campaign.
Pirates’ new boy follows team-mate Chris Holder, who confirmed a similar deal with motorcycle shock absorber and suspension manufacturers Hagon Shocks last month.
Ward, who will also ride in Poland for Torun this year, said: “I’m not planning on doing any early-season individual meetings when I return to England from Australia.
“The first thing I have to do is organise my bikes and I’ll have three at Poole’s press and practice day on March 22.
“This year, Hagon Shocks have come on board, which is great. Martin helps me out with my bikes, clutches and gearings.
“He’s saving me a lot of organising and I’m really grateful to him for that.
“I want to do well for me and him to try and extend his sponsorship into a second year.
“I’ve got a couple of other sponsors, Draper Tools and Wessex Marine, so I’ve had a lot of backing, which is important in this sport.
“Now I’ve just got to get out on track and do my stuff.”
Ward, who confirmed he would be lining up in the Grand Prix qualifiers, should be Poole Castle Cover’s trump card on a 4.56 average.
But the teenager said: “To be honest, I never really think about that. I just take every race as it comes.
“I just go out there and have fun. I don’t worry about my average.
“You just try to win races. That’s what we’re here to do. That’s what winning is all about.
“Averages are just what they use to build teams. I’m still young and want to have fun.”
