LEON Madsen insists he is unfazed by Pirates’ hectic April fixture schedule.
Instead, Poole Castle Cover’s new reserve believes he will thrive on a busy period of nine Elite League meetings inside 25 days that will go along way towards shaping their season.
The Dorset team begin their campaign at home to reigning champions Wolves on Easter Sunday, April 4.
Then they host Peterborough, Swindon, Lakeside and Coventry, and visit Panthers, Bees, Ipswich and Wolves all by the end of the month.
Madsen said: “It’s a tough beginning but, personally, it’s no problem for me. I like it when I’m racing a lot because it keeps my race fitness levels up and I can get into a good routine early on in the season.
“In the past couple of years, when I’ve only been racing once a week, I’ve got rusty, so for me it’s much better to race as many meetings as possible.
“I’m happy we’ve got nine meetings in 25 days. In fact, I can’t wait to get started.”
Madsen, who’ll line up in Pirates’ challenge match opener against Swindon at Wimborne Road on March 24, added: “I want to try and make it so Pirates are at the top of the league and not at the bottom like last year.
“That’s my main target as I know how important it is for the club, fans and sponsors that we get back to the top again because speedway is the number one sport in the town.
I’m working hard on my fitness, running and boxing, and on preparing my bikes.
"But the most important thing at the moment is trying to find somewhere for my mechanic, Michael Kryjum, to live because he'll be staying in the UK full time.
"I'll be staying at Neil Middleditch's in Sturminster Marshall where I'll also be able to work on my two bikes.
"The facilities at Middlo's are great. The only problem is my mechanic and I can't stay at the same place.
"So I need to find somewhere for him, hopefully close to the Sturminster Marshall-Poole area to cut down on travelling.
"I'd be grateful for any help I can get on that front, or with sponsorship, because I still have advertising space left on my race suit."
