CHRIS Holder believes he can go faster around Poole's track after setting a new personal best time for the season last night.

The Aussie shaved 0.01 seconds off his previous quickest when he led Magnus Zetterstrom and Eastbourne duo Scott Nicholls and Lewis Bridger home in race one.

Holder's four-lap winning time of 58.41 is also the quickest by a Castle Cover Pirates' rider at Wimborne Road this season.

But, after inspiring his side to their second biggest home win of the campaign, modest Holder said: "Heat one felt okay.

"I made a few mistakes, but the races that are quick are the ones you feel you aren't going so fast.

"I was just thinking about winning to get us off to a good start.

"If I was getting pushed I would go quicker. It's hard because if you are in heat one you are just trying to get off to a winning start."

Holder, still some way slower than Chris Harris' best visiting riders' time of 57.59 this year and Antonio Lindback's track record of 56.91 in 2006, added: "The track was prepared really good tonight.

"He (track curator John Hector) does a great job and I was able to get the best out of it in heat one.

"Eastbourne had three ex-Poole riders so it was pretty awesome to get 15 points against them.

"They have a few riders who know the best way round here so I'm stoked.

"I was physically exhausted when I got back to Britain from Poland on Monday.

"That's why I didn't ride at Belle Vue (in an individual meeting) that night. I couldn't have ridden; I was exhausted.

"Pulling out allowed me to rest, which I needed. I wouldn't have got 15 tonight if I'd still been exhausted, so it was the right decision."
