FORMER Poole and Southampton riders took centre stage at a Speedway Big Bash' in New Milton that attracted an estimated crowd of about 2,000.
Pirates greats Ken Middleditch, Pete Smith, Brian Crutcher, Martin Yeates, Kevin Smith, Neil Middleditch and Bill Holden were among the stars who mingled with fans at the event.
Barry Briggs, the four-times world champion, led the ex-Saints riders' contingent alongside others like Dick Bradley, Johnny Hole, John Fitzpatrick, Ron Walton and Stuart Wallace.
The bash was staged on land next to the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum and organiser Andy Scorey said: "We've exceeded the £350 total from our last show and I'm hoping we will reach a four-figure sum this time.
"We've still got money coming in and it will all go to the Speedway Riders' Benevolent Fund.
"Barry and all the other riders really enjoyed themselves and I'm hoping he will be back for next year's event.
"We've decided it will become an annual event with a slightly different theme every year. Hopefully the theme next year will be Sweden.
"Sammy, the former top road racer and European trials champion, fully embraced our event and without his help, it wouldn't have been possible to put it on."
