DAVEY Watt has commended Tomasz Gollob on his piece of improvised team riding' with a Russian rider that almost cost Australia victory in World Team Cup event one.
The Pirate admitted he lost his tactical brain as he was forced to finish behind Poland's Gollob and Grigory Laguta at Leszno.
The obvious 5-1' played a key role as Poland's late surge trimmed Australia's four-point lead to force a run-off which Leigh Adams won ahead of Jarek Hampel to book Craig Boyce's side a place in the final.
Many observers probably felt Gollob's antics were unfair and against the rules.
But Watt simply said: "It was basically my own fault.
"I made a good start with Gollob but messed up on the first corner, then he rode an absolutely perfect race and I was the victim of it.
"I lost my head. If I'd kept my cool I might have split them up. I saw Tomasz look over on the first corner, and on the third turn of the first lap he actually slowed down to wait for Laguta to come up inside him.
"Basically, I had to go wide. He had everything under control from thereon.
"I knew straight away what he was doing, but I'd already put myself in a bad position.
"I should probably have knocked it on the head on the first corner and cut back inside sooner. It was a silly move on my part.
"If he'd messed up and I'd passed him, he would probably have had a fair few harsh words thrown at him.
"I'm extremely complimentary about Tomasz. If it'd been anyone else out there I would've said it was fantastic.
"But because I was out there, I was frustrated by it. I've no hard feelings. It was a fantastic ride and I commend him for his efforts."
