Watt's knowledge is vital

NEIL Middleditch believes Davey Watt's intimate knowledge of King's Lynn's track will favour Pirates' challenge to retain the Elite League Pairs' title tonight (7pm).

Watt impressed for the Norfolk outfit in the Premier League in 2003 while he was doubling up with Poole.

And Middleditch feels that kind of experience of riding the circuit is invaluable as Watt and Bjarne Pedersen defend a trophy the Dane and Jason Crump lifted for Castle Cover Pirates last year.

Poole's team manager said: "It's a pairs' meeting and Davey knows his way round the track because of his time there.

"Bjarne has probably only been their twice in the last few years, but Davey can pass on his knowledge.

"That will be important in a top-class meeting like this.

"Davey has a very good history at King's Lynn and Bjarne has hit a nice bit of form at the right time.

"Hopefully they can carry that through in tonight's meeting.

"There is no reason why we can't go there and win it, and our chances are boosted because Davey is probably going to pick up an engine from Boycey (Craig Boyce) on the way up to ride tonight."

Pedersen returned to top form by getting a 13 paid 15 point maximum in Poole's 62-31 home win over Wolves on Wednesday.

Middleditch said: "It was an excellent performance, and it answered all his critics.

"I still think his engines aren't up to speed yet.

"He got 15 points and I don't want to take anything away from Bjarne, but I still feel he needs a bit more speed.

"Certainly Wednesday is a confidence booster for him and he look liked his old self.

"Bjarne had been struggling a bit so he and Davey haven't done that many heat 15s this season.

"But they have quite a good understanding and always look out for each other, which augurs well for tonight."
