FOUR visiting riders have been confirmed for Pirates' birthday meeting against Yarmouth Bloaters.

The teams are due to lock horns on Thursday, April 26, some 70 years to the day since the sides marked Poole Speedway's grand opening with a fixture which the hosts won 74-32.

Australian champion Rohan Tungate, ex-Grand Prix star Troy Batchelor, Scunthorpe's Jason Garrity and Edinburgh's Ricky Wells will represent the Bloaters, with Poole boss Matt Ford waiting on confirmation from further riders.

During the meeting, Ford plans to honour those who have died at the Wimborne Road track including Reg Craven, who lost his life in the inaugural fixture.

Season ticket holders will be given free admission, while other members of the public can gain entry for £8, which will include a free programme.

"Entrance plus a programme for £8 is cheaper than I've ever run top-flight speedway," said Ford.

The meeting is due to begin at 7pm. A display commemorating the history of Poole Speedway will be set up in the grandstand from 3pm.

Yarmouth were given special permission by the British Speedway Promoters' Association to use the ‘Bloaters’ name for the first time since the club closed in 1962.
