POOLE'S James Shanes booked his place in the British under-21 final after finishing fourth in a rain-affected semi-final at Eastbourne last night.
Shanes banked 11 points and qualified alongside Zach Wajtknecht, Max Clegg, Connor Mountain, Josh Bailey, Drew Kemp and Jason Edwards.
Wajtknecht led the way to finish ahead of Clegg with both riders on 14 points, Wajtknecht having beaten Clegg when the two riders met.
The second semi-final, scheduled for Newcastle today, was postponed due to the weather with a new date to be confirmed.
British under-21 semi-final: 1 Zach Wajtknecht (Swindon/Lakeside) 14, 2 Max Clegg (Rye House/Stoke) 14 (on countback), 3 Connor Mountain (Ipswich/Coventry) 12, 4 James Shanes (Poole/Sheffield) 11, 5 Josh Bailey (Mildenhall) 10, 6 Drew Kemp (Mildenhall) 9, 7 Jason Edwards (Eastbourne) 9.
