BRADY Kurtz has set his sights on a spot in the Grand Prix Challenge – and is planning to give the "big guys" a fright.

The 21-year-old earned a spot in world championship qualifying courtesy of his second-place finish in the Australian title race in January.

Poole spearhead Kurtz will head to a semi-final in Slovakia, Denmark, Italy or Germany next month, with a GP Challenge berth the reward for progress.

The New South Wales racer reached that stage two years ago but failed to qualify for the series proper after finishing 13th at Swedish circuit Vetlanda.

Kurtz told the Daily Echo: "My goal is to make it to the GP Challenge. Who knows? If it's a good year for me, I might make it through that.

"I was there two years ago but I knew and everyone knew I wasn't going to qualify.

"This year I think I am ready to challenge, maybe not make the top three but definitely be up the top with the big guys.

"Hopefully, I can step it up but we will have to wait and see."

Kurtz won the first heat of October's Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, lowering the colours of Maciej Janowski, Chris Holder and Antonio Lindback in the process.

On Monday, the youngster recorded three paid four for Polish club Leszno in their 47-43 training meeting win at Gniezno.
