NEIL Middleditch is not bothered who his number one is – and says team objectives come first.
Fresh from his second-place finish at Simon Stead’s farewell, Brady Kurtz will take top billing when Pirates face Somerset in a Knockout Cup double header on Good Friday.
However, the soon-to-return Chris Holder, Josh Grajczonek and Linus Sundstrom have seven-point averages and will be fancied to challenge the 21-year-old for the spearhead role this season.
Middleditch told the Daily Echo: “I don’t think it’s a case of having a number one on the back of anyone in particular.
“That’s Brady’s position at the moment and he would like to keep it, and there are other riders who would perhaps like to have it.
“But there’s no feeling among the boys that they need to get to number one immediately – the objective is to win the league.
“We’ve had it in the past that riders don’t want to let each other down and that is a big thing in winning meetings and league titles.”
