POOLE duo Brady Kurtz and Jack Holder missed out on medals as Maksym Drabik was crowned world under-21 champion in Czech city Pardubice on Friday.

Kacper Woryna, signed on a full transfer by Pirates in August, enjoyed an excellent night as he roared to second place with 17 points.

That was enough to propel the Pole into overall fourth, with his compatriot Bartosz Smektala and previous champion Max Fricke taking second and third, respectively.

Holder enjoyed the better meeting of the two 2016 Pirates riders, the Aussie reaching the semi-finals after experiencing mixed fortunes, which included two heats wins.

In the semi-final, Holder was eliminated after Drabik and Smektala finished ahead of him.

That ensured he secured overall sixth place, one spot behind countryman Kurtz.

Kurtz's meeting began badly when a poor start in his first ride contributed to a last-place finish but he fared better from then on, banking eight points which included a win.

However, he missed out on the semi-finals.

Kurtz, who was elevated to the number one role at Pirates this season, has already stated his hopes of returning to Wimborne Road next year.

The former Australian champion has completed just two top-flight seasons in Britain, making his rise to Poole spearhead all the more impressive.
