POOLE asset Nicolai Klindt is today set to undergo an operation on the injured knee which wrecked his season.

The popular Dane had attempted to battle through serious ligament damage which he sustained in Latvia at the beginning of June.

However, Klindt struggled following his brief return and was replaced by Timo Lahti in the Pirates line-up, before pulling the plug on his continental racing in mid-July.

The 28-year-old will hope to kick-start his bid to return to the saddle next season when he goes under the knife in Fredericia in his homeland.

Having been named in the Pirates septet for 2017, Klindt completed a full transfer to the Dorset club from Wolverhampton in May.

The teams meet at Wimborne Road tonight (7.30pm) with Wolves operating rider replacement in the absence of broken collarbone victim Sam Masters, who sustained the injury while riding for Edinburgh in the SGB Championship nearly a fortnight ago.
