FORMER world number two Krzysztof Kasprzak is set to make his debut for Rye House after signing for the Hoddesdon club at reserve.

The Polish star began the year as Pirates' spearhead and had been tipped by promoter Matt Ford to top the SGB Premiership averages.

However, Kasprzak struggled to produce anything near his best and his campaign was not helped by the broken collarbone he sustained in Poland in May.

Axed by Poole at the end of last month, the 33-year-old's average had plummeted so substantially – to 5.51 – that Rye House were able to accommodate him in their bottom two.

Kasprzak suffered an injury scare when he crashed while riding for Gorzow in Poland on Sunday. But he has since declared himself fit and is set to feature against visitors Leicester tonight.

Rockets co-promoter Steve Jenson told the club website: “We are absolutely thrilled to have Krzysztof on board and, hopefully, his presence will provide the X factor we need to make the final four.

"His record speaks for itself and starting with us at reserve will settle him in from day one. He won’t stay there for long, that’s for sure, and he will want his share of heat 15s.”

Team boss Peter Schroeck added: “KK wants to be back in Britain and Rye House is a track he likes.

"It didn’t work out for him at Poole but I don’t think it will take long to get his smile back. He is ultra-keen and has a point to prove."
