FURIOUS Matt Ford could make an 11th-hour charge into the transfer market in a bid to revive Pirates' flagging fortunes.

The Poole chief saw his team condemned to a fourth straight home defeat at the hands of lowly Somerset last night, with a visit to in-form Swindon awaiting this evening.

Clubs have until tomorrow night to bring in new blood and Ford may be tempted to do just that.

However, with riders in Poland's top flight limited to racing in just two other leagues, the promoter admits he faces a difficult task.

Speaking to speedwaygp.com, he said: “Riders are stuck in contracts and it’s very difficult to get people to come and ride.

“If we get the option to bring in someone, even this late in the day, I may still do it.

“The problem is no one wants to come. There’s no magic wand to be waved. No one wants to come to British speedway, I can tell you, I have spoken to them all.

“But you never know, sometimes 24 hours can be a long time in speedway. Maybe, just maybe, someone will see our result (against Somerset) and think ‘hey, I can do a job for you'."

Ford, who performed team manager duties against the Rebels in the absence of the unavailable Neil Middleditch, labelled as "unacceptable" the 45-44 defeat.

He said: “I wish riders that keep getting beaten would stop making excuses about tracks. They are just not good enough, it’s as simple as that.

“It’s laughable to keep hearing about track conditions. It’s the same for both teams and they have been beaten by the team that are second from bottom. They are supposed to be superstars, some of them.

“If we’re to have any aspirations of making the play-offs... I can’t see it happening with this team if I’m honest. They are killing us at the moment.

“It’s unacceptable. What it’s doing is it’s making me realise that many of this septet will not be representing the club next year. If they’re getting beaten by others, I clearly need to sign those guys, not the ones I have riding for me."
