GENEROUS Hans Andersen has pledged to top up a Riders' Equipment Fund donation to injured Pirates rider Kyle Newman.

Newman suffered a fractured shoulder blade and muscle damage during the season-opening Darcy Ward Invitational, potentially sidelining him until the middle of May.

The 25-year-old is due to receive £500 from the REF – the fundraising wing of Poole Speedway – during tomorrow's Knockout Cup quarter-final clash with Belle Vue.

And Pirates skipper Andersen revealed on Twitter that he would give a point's-worth of his wages from the first-leg clash to Newman, who has been replaced in the one-to-seven by Lewis Kerr.

Andersen told the Daily Echo: "It's unfortunate what happened to Kyle and it's something you wouldn't wish on anyone.

"Last season, I witnessed his injuries and how he battled to come back. To get injured without completing a lap is heartbreaking so that was one of the reasons I wanted to help.

"He's a good mate of mine and I feel really sorry for him."

In the wake of Andersen's Twitter post, Pirates reserve Nicolai Klindt suggested every member of the team should do the same.
