NICOLAI Klindt admitted Wolverhampton's reluctance to use him in recent years had been "a little bit annoying" but revealed how Poole would prove a better fit for him this season anyway.

The former Danish under-21 champion made a stunning start to his spell in Pirates leathers when he racked up 16 points against his parent club in Monday's SGB Premiership Shield clash at Monmore Green, a track a stone's throw from his home.

And Klindt, who has not ridden for Wolves since 2012, will again bid to show the West Midlands outfit what they are missing when he lines up in the second leg at Wimborne Road tonight (7.30pm).

Wolves approached Klindt over a team place during the off-season but the ex-Leicester and Swindon racer elected to bide his time, which paid off – in his estimation – when Pirates chief Matt Ford came calling.

Klindt told the Daily Echo: "Wolverhampton didn't want to use me and now I have a good average, they are interested! It's a little bit annoying because I have been struggling for team places due to injuries and performances in England, although abroad I've been all right.

"I would have hoped that since 2012, they would have been more interested in using me but they haven't.

"It was said on a forum that before they had the chance to approach me, I had already chosen Poole. But they actually approached me before Matt but never came back to me until three weeks after and in the meantime I had already done a deal with Matt.

"I didn't want to rush into things because I've done that before. Look at last year, I signed for Rye House because I didn't think anyone was interested in me and then I ended up at Leicester.

"This time, I wanted to wait so all the cards were on the table."

Klindt freely admits Wolverhampton is "not my favourite track" and says various factors were behind his decision to choose the Dorset club.

He added: "It might sound weird for a lot of people that I chose Poole because I live in Wolverhampton. But it's down to the track and a lot of other things and I think of all the clubs, Poole will suit me best.

"You have got to think what's best for yourself. Just because Wolverhampton are interested in me doesn't mean I have to ride for them. It's down to me to choose who I want to ride for."
