PIRATES asset Chris Holder won the D-DUB #43 Cup – an event organised by close friend Darcy Ward.

Holder, who ended a nine-season stay at Poole when he signed for King's Lynn this winter, warmed up for his debut campaign for the Stars in fine style.

The 29-year-old dropped just one point in five qualifying rides at North Brisbane.

Having won his semi-final, former world champion Holder saw off Rohan Tungate, Jason Crump and Max Fricke in the final.

He told the King's Lynn website: “It was a great meeting and Darcy and I had a lot of fun.

"I’m so proud to win it for Darcy, I love that guy and it was a pleasure to be here.”

Poole's off-season recruit Jack Holder scored 11 points from five rides, which included two race wins.

Brady Kurtz, also part of Pirates' 2017 line-up, sat out the meeting due to injury.

A benefit meeting for Ward on Friday, March 24 will kick off speedway at Wimborne Road this year.
