PROMOTER Matt Ford reckons Poole Pirates have the Turbo Twins of the future after completing the signing of Jack Holder as a club asset.

As far back as 2013, Ford made no secret of his desire to snap up Chris Holder’s younger brother and having sealed the deal, revealed the 20-year-old could race for Pirates in 2017.

The new recruit will continue to represent Plymouth Devils in the Premier League for the rest of the campaign but could begin his Elite League odyssey away from Wimborne Road with a loan deal this season.

And Ford admitted the prospect of Poole nurturing the talents of Holder and 19-year-old Brady Kurtz had left him with a familiar feeling of excitement.

Ford told the Daily Echo: “For many years we were fortunate enough to have Chris and Darcy (Ward). I told people to come out to watch them because I felt that would be as good as it got.

“I can only hope that Brady and Jack, who are very good friends in the same way Chris and Darcy are and have grown up together from an earlier age, will be the Turbo Twins of future and the catalyst for many trophies for the Pirates in the years to come.

“While many would have expected this announcement, people might have thought it would have been closer to the start of next season. We are so pleased, he is a rider with a huge amount of potential, one we have had an interest in throughout his time in the UK and even before.

“This won’t be a shock to anyone and in my opinion, it is a great coup for the club. Jack will have a huge impact on our sport domestically and internationally.

“Whether or not he gets to the dizzying heights of his brother remains to be seen but he has the ability. He is a self-motivated, very confident young man and he will have a great future for many years, hopefully with Poole.”

Holder secured his status as one of his country's burgeoning talents by winning the Australian Under-21 Championship with a 15-point maximum, beating Kurtz by a single point in January.

On the prospect of Holder, whose 7.25 average in the second tier would convert to 4.35 under current rules, gaining a team place next season, Ford added: “We can never pre-empt the outcome of an AGM but this signing is certainly being made with the thought that he will be with us from next season onwards. The rules can always change things.

“In the meantime, Jack could race elsewhere in the Elite League on loan this season but time will tell on that front.”

Meanwhile, Ford praised his Plymouth counterparts for their part in the transfer.

“David Short and I worked together at Exeter and he is a very honourable man,” he said.

“He and has partners at the Devils have always been very easy to deal with. We have helped in the development of Jack while this was ongoing with a view to him joining us.”
