PIRATES rider Adam Ellis admitted a burning desire to race in the World Under-21 Championship had hastened his comeback from injury.

The 20-year-old is tomorrow poised to compete in the opening round of the prestigious event at King's Lynn less than three weeks after breaking his collarbone.

Ellis was advised to rest for four to six weeks by medics after suffering the setback in an Elite League meeting at Swindon.

But following further consultation with a physiotherapist, the Ringwood-based charger is content he is fit enough to return to the shale.

Ellis told the Daily Echo: "The collarbone is feeling pretty good. It's still sore but it's a lot better than it has been in the past couple of weeks.

"Fingers crossed the track will be pretty slick and not too demanding, and everything will turn out well.

"If it wasn't the first round of the World Under-21 Championship, I don't think I would be pushing to come back so early.

"But I'd be pretty gutted if I went to the second round in September without any points because I pulled out of the first one. I have to at least try.

"Most riders are able to come back from this injury pretty quickly so I'm hoping there won't be any complications.

"The physio told me as long as I didn't fall off it would be okay. Once I start riding, I don't think I will think about the injury too much."
