PIRATES star Kyle Newman admits his recent form has not been up to scratch and insists: "I expect better from myself."

Having returned to reserve for the Elite League double-header against Swindon, Newman bagged seven paid eight at Blunsdon before an underwhelming four paid six in the return clash 48 hours later.

And while Poole tasted victory in both meetings,Newman feels his displays must improve.

The 24-year-old, a key cog in Poole's league title triumph last year, said: "I felt good on Monday. I managed to score paid eight and win a couple of races but a last and a third in my other two rides was slightly frustrating.

"On Wednesday the frustration continued. I struggled to get out the start and never really found a set-up I was completely satisfied with.

"I began well but tailed off, which isn't anything like my real form around Poole and I expect better from myself."

Newman, who was speaking to his personal website, races at Workington with Premier League club Plymouth tomorrow, with a trip to Glasgow set to follow on Sunday.
