NEIL Middleditch knows he is on to a winner with Krzysztof Buczkowski this season – even if he is struggling to let the Pirates charger know.

The Poole team boss was full of praise after the Polish newcomer, who speaks precious little English, wowed the crowd with some breathtaking racing in last night’s 50-40 home victory over Swindon.

Buczkowski backed up a strong seven in Monday’s victory at Blunsdon with seven paid nine in front of his own fans and Middleditch argued his points had been hard-earned.

He told the Daily Echo “The thing with Buzz is he doesn’t know how to give up and that is what endears him to fans, riders and the rest of us.

“Wherever he is on the track, you cannot let up because you know he will be all over you.

“We’re pleased with how he has started. The language barrier might not be ideal but I am getting a smile, a thumbs up or a fist bump at the right times.

“His mechanic says he is very happy here and when that’s the case, it shows in your riding.

“At Swindon, he had a bad race and came back so angry with himself. That is what I want to see – show me a bit of passion and I am happy.”

Meanwhile, Middleditch reckons two wins in three days against a play-off rival is a sign of progress for his Pirates.

“Prior to Monday’s meeting, it was certainly a case of could do better but the boys have stepped up and these past two performances have set the benchmark,” he added.

“You always have critics and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Everybody said we would run away with it but that was never going to happen, you only have to look at some of the teams out there.

“Wolverhampton, Belle Vue and Swindon are all going very well and I think this is going to be one of the tightest battles for the play-offs for many years.”
