DAVEY Watt has swiftly ended his brief exile from Elite League speedway after joining Leicester.

The experienced Aussie was axed by Pirates at the end of last month following a difficult start to the campaign, with club legend Bjarne Pedersen snapped up to fill the void.

Watt has now joined the Lions as a replacement for the injured Sebastian Ulamek and is set to make his debut at Wolverhampton on Monday, subject to approval from the British Speedway Promoters’ Association.

He said: “I’ve had a bit of a rough start to the season but I feel I’m getting things in order and can’t wait to get started.

"I feel it’s a team with a lot of room to grow and a team that is full of potential.”

Queenslander Watt managed just 19 points in five league meetings prior to his exit from Wimborne Road. He is due to come up against his former employers this coming Wednesday.

Lions team boss Norrie Allan said: “Opportunities to sign riders of Davey’s quality and leadership rarely become available once racing starts.

"While he had an indifferent start to this season with Poole I believe that he will find his scoring touch again at Leicester.”

Watt and Allan were speaking to the club website.
