ADAM Ellis has targeted Monday’s trip to Leicester for his comeback despite suffering a dislocated left shoulder.

Fortunately, the 20-year-old’s joint made its own way back into its socket after his heat-11 crash at Wolverhampton on Monday with subsequent X-rays of his left foot showing no broken bones.

The positive prognosis should allay fears of a long layoff for Poole’s second-tier draft rider with the Ringwood-based star hopeful of testing his fitness with a run out for National League Eastbourne against Isle of Wight on Saturday.

Ellis told the Daily Echo: “My shoulder was out when I was sat on the track but as I got up to go to the ambulance, it just went back in which was a bonus.

“It is just a bit sore now. I don’t have much movement in it yet but hopefully, it will be alright with a bit of time.

“They took an X-ray of my foot and said nothing was broken. They will take a proper look and let me know exactly what I have done to it. The pain was more in my foot and up my calf but it is a bit better now.

“I can’t say for sure yet but I hope to be back in time for Monday, that’s the plan.

“I am due to have a meeting for Eastbourne on Saturday so I will see how I feel in the build up to that. It might be worth a try just to see how it holds up.”

Winter recruit Ellis has hit the ground running at Wimborne Road, maintaining an eight-point green sheet average up to May 2 which has seen him step into the main body of the team.

Wolverhampton was his first meeting at number three and despite his accident, Ellis felt there had been plenty of positives.

“The track was not ideal and I struggled to get a smooth line in my first race but the second ride was a lot better,” he added.

“I just made a small mistake by lifting it on turn four to let Joonas (Kylmakorpi) up the inside.

“There was room for improvement but I was pretty happy with how it went until the crash. Hopefully, I can come back and keep getting better.”

On heat 11, he said: “I felt I had made a decent start but Sam Masters managed to get past me and I turned in a bit too hard.

“I don’t remember too much other than seeing Hans (Andersen) coming towards me. I was just glad he managed to avoid me. It could have been a lot worse.”

Pirates will have no fewer than three riders absent for Wolverhampton’s visit tonight (7.30).

Ellis is replaced by Josh Auty, while Swindon’s Charles Wright guests for Kyle Newman (groin). Poole will run rider replacement for Bjarne Pedersen, who has commitments in Denmark.
