PIRATES star Hans Andersen has promised to boycott a Speedway Grand Prix qualifier – unless the Danish Motor Union backs down.

The two-time Elite League winner and 16 of his countryman have threatened not to ride in Esbjerg next week at a meeting due to determine Denmark's representatives in the world and European championships for 2016.

Andersen and co are furious that Michael Jepsen Jensen has been handed a wild card for the SGP qualifying quarter-finals, meaning he will not have to race in Esbjerg in order to progress.

Jepsen Jensen's request for a wild card was approved by the Speedway Sports Commission after he elected to ride for Polish club Gorzow on Friday, April 15, the same night as the Danish qualifier.

National boss Anders Secher quit over the row last week and, hopeful of avoiding further disquiet, the DMU is keen to hold talks with riders tonight.

In the second of two letters sent to the national authority, printed in Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, the riders wrote: “We in no way accept the wild card awarded.

“We still believe that it must be decided on the track, who is allowed to take his chance internationally.

“If there is no solution to this problem, we reiterate our earlier statement that we do not want to take part in the SGP/SEC qualifier in Esbjerg under these conditions.”

As well as Andersen, the senders of the letter were Bjarne Pedersen, Peter Kildemand, Mikkel Michelsen, Mikkel Bech, Ulrich Ostergaard, Leon Madsen, Kenneth Bjerre, Lasse Bjerre, Mads Korneliussen, Patrick Hougaard, Claus Vissing, Rene Bach, Nicolai Klindt, Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen, Anders Thomsen and Kenni Larsen.
